CEC Launches First “Gen AI & Other Digital Tools” Course for Erasmus+ Participants

Cork English College (CEC) recently launched its brand new “Gen AI & Other Digital Tools” course, developed specifically for Erasmus+ participants. This exciting new programme reinforces CEC’s commitment to delivering innovative, future-focused professional development for teachers and education professionals across Europe.

Held in Cork and welcoming participants from Croatia, Germany, Czechia, Norway, and France, the course equips educators with practical knowledge and hands-on experience in Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI) and other digital tools for the classroom. As AI continues to transform education, this course ensures teachers feel confident and capable of incorporating these technologies into their own practice.

Throughout the week, participants explored:

The fundamentals of Gen AI

Tools such as ChatGPT, Canva, and Google AI

Ethical considerations and digital literacy

Prompt engineering and creative applications

Managing risks such as over-reliance and misinformation

Deirdre Slevin, CEC’s Academic Manager, commented:

“The recent GenAI course was highly participatory and involved many interesting discussions around the place of GenAI in our classrooms. Participants gained a better understanding of digital tools both broadly and within their own contexts. Everyone took part in activity generation, peer teaching, and collaborative learning. By the end of the week, they were ready and excited to return to the edusphere with fresh ideas and skills.”

She added that critical thinking development was embedded throughout, with the aim of equipping students to keep pace with the evolving digital education landscape.

One of the course’s main strengths was its practical focus. Participants left with a portfolio of AI-enhanced teaching resources and real strategies to apply in their classrooms.
