The original US au pair program
Au Pair in America is the original au pair program, approved by the US government in 1986. With 40 years of experience, we have welcomed over 120,000 young people from more than 60 countries into US host families through our well-established cultural exchange program.
We work closely with schools, universities, educational agents and partner institutions to provide trusted guidance for young people seeking an international experience in the United States.
Our program is designed for young people aged 18–26 who have childcare experience. It combines live-in childcare with cultural exchange, study and travel. This offers participants a 12-month immersive experience that supports both personal and professional development.
All participants complete pre-arrival training, including American Red Cross and AAA training, and attend a three-day in-person orientation in the US. This ensures au pairs arrive prepared, confident and ready to succeed.
Au Pair in America provides full in-country support through our strong network of local Community Counsellors across the US. Counsellors contact au pairs regularly, are there to advise au pairs and host families, and organise monthly social events to help create a multicultural community of participants. Au Pair in America also provides 24/7 emergency assistance for our au pairs.
Our experienced team manages the entire process, from application review and interviews to matching, arrival in the US and support during the program. Our approach ensures a seamless experience for applicants at a consistently high standard.
At Au Pair in America, we believe that a successful exchange programme is built on preparation, support and trust. Our long-standing expertise, detailed screening and structured approach make us a reliable partner for institutions supporting young people on international pathways.
