Lewis School of English introduced a new app at its Winchester Junior Centre this summer, designed to help students get more from every part of their programme – from lessons and excursions to activities, competitions and life at the centre.
The Lewis Summer app brings together everything students need during their stay, including an interactive timetable, programme and campus information, useful guidance and details of where to go for help. It also encourages students to explore their programme further: they can discover excursion destinations through photos and videos, take trip quizzes and follow links from their syllabus to optional language practice.
A system of digital badges adds another element of fun and encourages students to get involved in centre life. Badges can be earned for completing each week of the syllabus, achieving a high score in a trip quiz, entering or winning the Photo of the Week competition, winning team challenges and participating in specialist courses, including English & Theatre.
Importantly, the badges recognise participation as well as achievement. Students are encouraged not just to do well academically, but to get involved, try new things and make the most of their experience.
Following its introduction in Winchester, Lewis is now developing the concept further for its summer and off-peak junior programmes in Southampton.
