At Cork English College, we believe that learning English is about more than language — it is also about meeting people from different backgrounds, discovering new cultures and becoming part of an international community.
Last week, we put this into practice with our International Food & Culture Day, bringing students together for a celebration of the many nationalities and cultures represented at CEC.
Students were invited to share something from their home country, and they certainly embraced the opportunity! Our Common Room was transformed into a colourful international gathering, with students bringing traditional dishes, homemade sweet treats, music and other cultural elements to share with their classmates.
The event created a wonderful opportunity for students to step outside their usual social groups, learn more about one another and experience cultures from around the world — all while using English in a relaxed and informal setting.
For us, this is an important part of the CEC experience. Our students come from a wide range of countries, and cultural exchange is something that happens naturally every day at the college. Events such as this give our students an opportunity to celebrate that diversity while strengthening the sense of community that makes studying abroad so memorable.
The day was a great success, filled with food, music, conversation and plenty of good humour. We are very grateful to all the students who contributed and helped make it such a memorable celebration of the international community at Cork English College!
