Some moments stop you in your tracks.
It started with a knock at the door.
A parcel, elegant, unexpected arrived at Languages United. For a moment, the whole office paused. Who could it be from?
Inside was a beautifully curated gift from a student who had recently joined us from Japan. Just days earlier, she had written:
“It was an amazing experience… I felt reassured that I was always supported.”
Her name is Eri. She had travelled to Bath to join our Confident English for women over 50 course and somewhere between her first tentative conversation and her final afternoon walk through the city, something shifted.
“The classes feel very homey… the teachers and staff are truly professional and warm.”
You can almost picture it. A small group gathered around a table. Laughter. Encouragement. That quiet moment when someone who once hesitated… speaks.
And keeps speaking.
“Any worries I had about being embarrassed to speak English quickly disappeared.”
This is the part we don’t always talk about enough. Not grammar. Not vocabulary. But confidence. The kind that grows gently, held by the right people, in the right place.
Mornings in the classroom. Afternoons out in the city, using English while ordering coffee, chatting, discovering, living.
“A special learning time for adults.”
That phrase stayed with us.
Because this is what we see, every single week. People arriving with one version of themselves… and leaving with another.
And sometimes, they send a thank you.
