IH Cape Town launched the Culture Club after noticing a clear trend: students wanted more than just language lessons and the usual nightlife routine.
They were craving deeper experiences, authentic encounters and a chance to understand the city beyond its surface. The Culture Club was created to meet that need, offering a richer, more meaningful way to explore Cape Town.
Each week now brings something fresh. Students might find themselves chatting over coffee in a local café, wandering through one of the city’s renowned museums, exploring vibrant township communities, or discovering Cape Town’s thriving art scene. Every activity is chosen with intention: cultural, safe, engaging and genuinely enjoyable.
The programme is led by Mayara, whose enthusiasm tends to pull even the shyest students into the adventure. As she explains, exploring Cape Town is a learning opportunity in itself. “There’s nothing better than putting into practice all the English learned at school by using it to experience this paradise.”
