TIS celebrates 5 years of 'Discover Devon 50+'

Breathtaking scenery, irresistible local delicacies, and the birthplace of some of the most compelling authors to grace the pages of English literature: is it any wonder that more and more 50+ students are flocking to Torquay International School each year to discover the secrets of the glorious county of Devon?

Or in many cases, to re-discover Devon, as School Principal Richard Beale makes clear as we enjoy some biscuits and local cheese from nearby Occombe Farm. “This year we welcomed back Fumiko for her fourth Discover Devon course. Our team strive to keep this programme fresh; we want students like Fumiko to feel they can return year after year and always find new and exciting things to learn, see and do”.

Vicki Rabicano, Director of Studies, gives us her view on why the course is so popular.  “The best thing is that the content of the lessons is different every year.  Art, history, folklore, poetry, literature … the programme is a real change of pace for our teachers and they all want to get involved. Their contributions are what really make the programme so unique. And Fumiko’s decision to return for the fourth time in five years shows that we’re getting it right,” she enthuses as we devour a delicious cream tea served in the garden on the TIS lawn.
