Travelling to the UK
By Plane
Most students travel to the UK by
plane. Nowadays there are many airports and airlines to choose from and a
wide range of prices. The earlier you book the cheaper it may be.
British Airways long haul
flights normally arrive at London Heathrow airport, and all QE schools offer
transfer advice and a taxi booking service.
In Europe you can book flights
with the low cost airlines:
Easyjet
flights arrive at Luton, London Stansted and London Gatwick.
Ryanair flights arrive at London Stansted.
London Stansted Airport is convenient for Cambridge Academy of English
London Gatwick Airport is convenient for The English Language Centre in Brighton
Flybe flights arrive at London Gatwick, Luton, Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester, and Southampton (convenient for BEET)
bmi flights arrive at London Heathrow and Gatwick, Birmingham and Manchester
bmi baby flights arrive at London Heathrow and Gatwick, Birmingham and Manchester
Sky Europe is Central Europe's first low-cost airline. Flights arrive at London Stansted and Manchester
Thomsonfly flights arrive at Bournemouth (convenient for BEET)
www.jet2.com flights arrive at London Gatwick, Manchester and Bournemouth
Airlines of Europe lists all European airlines
Manchester Airport is very convenient for Melton College, York and for Anglolang, Scarborough
Birmingham Airport can be
convenient for the Oxford schools Eckersley
and the Lake School
and you can transfer by train
Look at a map and make sure that you are not going to arrive too far from
the town you are studying in. Check on transfers with your school. For example,
although it would be very convenient to transfer to Cambridge Academy from
Stansted airport, it is inconvenient to transfer from Stansted airport to
Brighton or Eastbourne.
Sometimes low cost flights arrive late in the evening. Make sure that you
plan to arrive at your host family at a reasonable hour in the evening (before
22.00).
Always ask your school for advice.
