Time to bring dictation back to the classroom

When was the last time you used dictation with your students? Could it be that this stalwart lesson activity has been superseded by exercises of a flashier, 'gadget-giddy' repertoire? In this ode to the humble dictation, its many uses will be remembered. Given how online teaching can easily become a little tech-heavy and lose a human touch, it seems the time is right to bring dictation back to the classroom!

Laura studied German, French and linguistics at York University and has always been intrigued by language and its acquisition. Laura's been at English in York since studying for the CELTA in 2006 and is now the Director of Studies. She loves working with the enthusiastic teachers and friendly support staff to welcome students from all over the world. During lockdown Laura has enjoyed learning the guitar (7 chords now!), doing more pilates than usual, jogging in the sunshine, writing letters and hosting quiz nights on Zoom!
