Proudly warm and friendly, the Lewis School of English frequently attracts returning students, and has now seen its longest span between visits. Miki Asada from Japan studied at Lewis in the 1990s and came back for a General English course earlier this year. To her delight, she found herself with the very same teacher as she had all those years ago!
Miki had been following the school on social media and had spotted some familiar faces – Alistair, the owner/director and Andrew, her former teacher. She decided a return visit would both stretch her English and refresh the cherished memories of her original stay. Asked how she felt on stepping through the front door again, she explained, “It felt really strange…like I was in my dream world! The homely atmosphere hasn’t changed at all. You feel really welcome and teachers are very engaging, skilled, and are ready to help you.”
Echoing her view that the school had stayed true to its character, Miki set herself a challenge. She enlisted the help of her classmates to recreate some photos from her original stay 25 years ago. These ‘before and after’ photos were great fun, and you can see the results on the Lewis School blog. But the highlight for her was meeting her teacher Andrew again. “I didn’t think he would remember me, because it has been so many years and he has had so many students…but he did. It’s really overwhelming!"
