Lewis School of English launches Online Learning Platform

The Lewis School of English has launched a suite of tutor-led teacher training courses on its new virtual platform, Lewis Online Learning.

The courses have been designed as a convenient way of helping teachers fit in professional development training around their busy schedules. Participants meet, collaborate with and share ideas among other English language teachers from around the world.

What makes Lewis Online Learning different is that, while the courses are tutor-led, they don’t require everyone to be online at the same time. The participants perform a variety of individual exercises and collaborative tasks with their peers, but can do so at a time that suits them (before a specified deadline). They also have access to a tutor, who provides feedback and support throughout the course. Articles, discussions, videos and quizzes provide lively and varied content, and with just five hours’ time commitment per week, the workload is highly manageable. By the end of the course, there is also a great sense of friendship and team spirit - teachers come away with new contacts as well as lots of teaching tips and lesson ideas.

Three courses are available:
• Helping Students with Pronunciation
• Student-Centred Teaching
• Getting Creative with Resources

Each runs for two or four weeks, and has a maximum size of 12, to provide plenty of individual attention. The current course (on teaching pronunciation) is fully booked with teachers from Palestine, Serbia, Chile and the UK. As a result, more dates have been added to meet demand.

“We’re very excited to have launched Lewis Online Learning,” says Abby Croucher, Course Director and Teacher Trainer for Lewis Online Learning. “Our aim is to offer teachers the convenience and flexibility of online professional development while maintaining the benefits of learning through social interaction with others.”

Lewis School is now also offering online General English courses, to support students unable to attend face-to-face classes as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.
