Excel English reaches 30 year milestone

Excel English reaches 30 year milestone

In September 1989, Excel English opened its doors for the first time in rented premises and with largely part time au pair students. The last 30 years have seen considerable changes. Our first British Council accreditation in 1991 enabled us to start building our network of agent partners throughout the world and increase our nationality mix and full time numbers.

Over the years there have been ups and downs but some of the highlights have been our Principal, Judy Loren, winning North London Businesswoman of the year in 1992 & 1997 and us building our own purpose designed school in 1998.

But throughout, we have always tried to live up to our name and give our students excellence in both teaching and student care, and our current British Council ranking in the top 20 of all language school organisations in the UK shows that the hard work has paid off. And of course we were delighted to be asked to join Quality English in 2005, to start participating in their overseas workshops and in November 2018 to be awarded a giant penguin at the Gala Dinner for our support for QE.

To celebrate this important 30 year milestone we’ve introduced 2 new courses for 2019. English for Olympic Volunteers celebrates London being the only city to successfully host 3 Olympics, and will teach the English needed by the volunteers who make each Games successful. For Tokyo 2020 the organisers are hoping to enlist the help of 90,000 volunteers and of course, nearer to home, Paris 2024 will need many committed helpers.

The other course – very appropriately is an addition to our 30+ professional programmes – Professional Language with Golf.

Thanks to everyone for their support over the last 30 years. Here’s to many more.
