As part of the Cork Lifelong Learning Festival, held in conjunction with the UNESCO Learning Cities Conference, the Cork English College Research Team gave a talk and workshop on Project Based Learning (PBL) on Wednesday evening, September 20th. CEC was delighted to welcome the Lord Mayor Tony Fitzgerald to the reception beforehand.
The talk focused on PBL and its usefulness in realizing lifelong learning within the community. The presenters discussed how the UNESCO Sustainable Development Goals and the Conference theme of 'global goals, local actions' could be approached at a community level in a cooperative learning environment.
Workshop participants then engaged in group 'mini-projects' wherein they designed a PBL task for one of four target groups within Cork, including: asylum seekers, young entrepreneurs, secondary school students and those leaving formal education before the age of 15.
The research team was thrilled with the excellent turn out on the night and is very grateful to all participants for helping make the evening a success.
